About The Position

This Child Welfare Specialist serves as the Customer Service Representative (CSR) at the Louisiana Child Safety Response Center (LCSRC). The LCSRC serves as the first point of contact for individuals reporting concerns of child abuse, neglect, or other child welfare issues. Operating as a 911-style Call Center for child abuse and neglect, the LCSRC is responsible for receiving and assessing reports through phone calls, electronic submissions, and other communication channels. CSRs gather critical information, determine the nature and urgency of each situation, and ensure that the appropriate personnel and resources are notified in a timely and accurate manner. This role is critical to ensuring the safety and well-being of children through prompt and thorough screening, assessment, and referral. The position requires strong communication, decision-making, and multitasking skills in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in child welfare; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor’s degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A current driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15.587.1 (c).

Responsibilities

  • Receive and screen intake reports via phone, mail, fax, or email.
  • Gather sufficient information needed to make an appropriate and sound decision at intake.
  • Complete the required forms, conducts thorough search via agency data systems and inputs reported information into data systems.
  • Provide quality customer service through the use of listening skills, interviewing skills and through the provision of information relative to community resources.
  • May serve as the lead worker in absence of supervisor and may perform duties as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in formalized training programs and seminars relative to child abuse/neglect and investigative techniques.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
