About The Position

Oversees Child Welfare Services and administrative operations of a Class 4 County DFCS office. Leads the administration of policies and programs designed to protect children and families. Ensures mandated services with priority of child safety and service provision to children and families. Directs subordinate managers and staff. The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) is a dynamic state agency responsible for delivering a wide range of services to Georgia's most vulnerable populations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience which includes two (2) years of management of subordinate managers/supervisors in a human service delivery program; or Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience at the lower level Cnty Dir 3, Child Welfare Svcs (SSM072) or position equivalent.
  • Related qualifications include social work and behavioral science degrees, including but not limited to the following: social science, psychology, sociology, child development, family studies, criminal justice, education, public health and public administration.
  • Related experience include the provision of services in a social services environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years supervisory work experience with DFCS or comparable child welfare agency managing Child Protective Services (CPS), Foster Care and/or Adoptions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and assesses the effectiveness of existing policies and programs to ensure the identified outcome measures are achieved.
  • Assures agency compliance with policies, appropriate documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Builds and encourages a cooperative team-oriented environment within unit(s) and with other agencies and providers.
  • Creates and maintains positive working relationships within the community and on the county DFCS Board.
  • Develops and administers budgets.
  • Facilitates communication within the unit(s)/agency on a specific case level, as well as on a procedure/policy level.
  • Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges social services employees.
  • Leads and administers a comprehensive system of public assistance, employability, and social services.
  • Manages human resources and directs administrative activities for groups of social services employees.
  • Plans, administers, and maintains the operation of social services programs.
  • Reviews new and current programs to determine their efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with state, local and federal regulations.
