About The Position

The child watch attendant is responsible for the supervision and interaction of children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old while under the care of the Child Watch department. Every position at the YMCA of East Tennessee is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y’s core values - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • One to three months experience working with children in the responsible age group.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • New Employee Orientation; required before start, provided by the Y.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and interacts with children in the Child Watch area in a safe and professional manner.
  • Ensures all children are registered and signed in/out by parent and/or guardian.
  • Ensures the child watch area is maintained in a clean, safe, and serviceable environment; notifies supervisor of any deficiencies.
  • Must be able to follow appropriate records for child watch area including enrollment, attendance, and special handling instructions.
  • Take all reasonable measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children in child watch.
  • Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
