About The Position

The Child Watch Lead is responsible for overseeing Child Watch operations, and the coordination of staff and children. This role requires the ability to work effectively with others in alignment with the YMCA 4 Core Values, modeling these values in all aspects of position responsibilities. The lead will supervise the operation of the Child Watch program, ensuring each child is signed in and out. Effective communication and a professional attitude with parents, staff, and children are essential. The position involves supporting philosophies, policies, and procedures using positive discipline and redirection, while providing a safe environment for children. Maintaining accurate records, including attendance, waivers, emergency information, incident reports, and a supervisor's log, is crucial. The lead will also assist in evaluating staff effectiveness, participate in housekeeping responsibilities, and communicate positively with all participants, parents, members, and co-workers. Following YMCA policies and procedures, and informing appropriate staff of any policy or safety concerns, is required. General housekeeping duties include cleaning bathrooms, tables, floors, and managing trash and doors. Maintaining a professional demeanor to uphold the YMCA image and mission statement is expected. The role involves assisting in planning, supervision, and implementation of the daily schedule and curriculum, and attending staff meetings and trainings. Support to other departments may be needed. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency are necessary. The ability to observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply policies is required. Physical ability to lead and interact in active sports and games, monitor behavior, and participate in curriculum activities is needed. Additionally, the physical ability to lift children, change and clean soiled children, and interact and direct play is necessary. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

1+ year’s of experience working with infants and children, ages 2 months - 12 years of age
Ability to communicate and relate well with both young children and adults
Able to provide leadership and stability for program continuity
Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications
CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute

General housekeeping duties including cleaning bathrooms, wiping down tables, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, taking out trash and locking all doors
Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld
Assist in planning, supervision and implementation of the daily schedule and curriculum
Attend staff meetings and trainings
Provide support to other departments as needed
Wear YMCA staff shirt and name tag during working hours
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures
Physical ability to lead and interact in active sports and games with children, monitor behavior- requiring separation and participate in curriculum activities
Physical ability to lift children as needed, change and clean a soiled child, interact and direct play
