About The Position

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Child Support Enforcement Specialist for the State Office Arrears Unit. This role involves processing new cases transferred from district offices, managing a caseload of the highest complexity, and providing services to families. These services include locating absent parents and assets, collecting child and cash medical support, enforcing court orders, and distributing payments within required timeframes. DCFS is committed to keeping children safe, helping individuals and families become self-sufficient, and providing refuge during disasters, with a vision to care for the well-being and safety of Louisiana's people.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in child support enforcement; OR
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus two years of experience in child support enforcement; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience in child support enforcement; OR
  • A master’s degree plus one year of experience in child support enforcement.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Completes and processes new applications/referrals into the LIVE caseload.
  • Establishes and maintains good communication with community-based Employment Specialists and other community partners to align services with participant needs.
  • Consults with courts, contract district attorneys, or staff attorneys, as appropriate, in assisting applicants within the system.
  • Participates in community events to expand knowledge and understanding of the grant and goals of the initiative.
  • Prepares and maintains reports on participant data, including participation, services provided, employment status, program completion, and retention.
  • Assists with additional tasks to better serve participants and their families as may be assigned by the State Project Manager, the Executive Director, the Local Project Manager, and/or the LIVE supervisor.
  • Locates absent parents and assets.
  • Collects child and cash medical support.
  • Enforces court orders for child and medical support.
  • Distributes payments received within the timeframes required by CSE policy and federal and state laws and regulations.
