About The Position

This is a part-time, regular position with a weekly hour commitment of 20 (0.5 FTE). The role focuses on delivering patient care within a Child Psychiatry setting, emphasizing a holistic team approach and continuous learning. The position involves managing the environment, delivering care, implementing patient care plans, leading clinical activities, developing patient relationships, and meticulous documentation. The role requires adherence to safety protocols, crisis intervention techniques, and collaborative work within a multidisciplinary team. The position is located at the College Hill Campus within the PA5.200 Child Inpatient department.

Requirements

High school diploma and 2+ years of experience or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
May require clinical license, certification or training.

Responsibilities

Deliver patient care by following processes and procedures, demonstrating resilience and receptiveness to instruction and feedback.
Engage in personal clinical development by actively interacting with advanced team members and the multidisciplinary team, seeking knowledge and learning opportunities.
Leverage practical experience to identify patterns, recognize behaviors, and anticipate typical reactions.
Support the team by sharing knowledge to enhance clinical proficiency and foster a collaborative learning environment.
Adapt communication style to effectively listen and communicate with diverse groups, including patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
Coordinate the assigned area by utilizing safety, structure, planning, participation, and support.
Perform environmental checks while adhering to patient safety and treatment schedules.
Prevent and respond to escalations and crises utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention concepts, which may include physical restraint.
Take the lead role during a behavioral crisis and appropriately deploy interventions aligned with the stress model of crisis and patient treatment plans.
Ensure the work area is safe and organized, and that treatment schedules are progressing appropriately.
Adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols, complete all patient/safety checks, and follow patient observation level protocols.
Prepare necessary materials for patient populations.
Support patient stabilization from acute crisis in accordance with respective care location and patient needs.
Demonstrate collaborative efforts with the multidisciplinary team and escalate changes in patient conditions or concerns to management, appropriate staff, licensed providers, and approved parties.
Implement/document the patient's response to individualized care plans, which may include patient behavioral information collection or implementing behavioral/educational protocols.
Provide approved care to patients as delegated, including activities for daily living, intake and output, feeding, bathing, toileting, isolation precautions, and emergency care for patients with lines and tubes.
Engage the patient's family and support system in the treatment plan as established in the medical record.
Provide updates to approved parents and legal guardians regarding patient condition and progress.
Collaborate with all members of the multidisciplinary team and escalate changes in patient conditions using the documented escalation process or to a licensed staff member.
Participate in regular team planning meetings as appropriate or needed.
Assist the multidisciplinary team during patient care, and/or parent and staff training related to individual behavioral and education programs, data collection, and environmental modifications.
Lead psychoeducation and recreational group activities ensuring positive patient engagement and safe behaviors.
Adapt group content to meet the needs and functional developmental level of participating patients.
Implement behavioral and educational protocols as designed by psychology staff.
Provide insight into antecedent events, behaviors, and outcomes that may affect behavioral treatment.
Implement individualized and group behavior and education intervention plans as prescribed.
Utilize crisis intervention techniques as appropriate.
Participate in problem-solving of behavioral treatment options.
Provide trauma-informed, relationship-based care to a diverse patient population with an awareness of how personal experiences and biases impact interactions.
Adapt approach as needed and engage patients at their level of functioning while recognizing the effects of trauma, including behavioral aggression.
Develop clinically appropriate rapport through a variety of care interactions.
Engage in trauma-informed communication, positive engagement, and unconditional positive regard during all interactions with patients and caregivers.
Build and sustain an environment that is safe, stable, and nurturing.
Actively participate in team planning meetings, multidisciplinary team programming, creation and management of program materials, special projects, and during shift report/handoff.
Assure seclusion and restraint documentation is accurately completed within the appropriate timeframe.
Escalate observations of changes in patient conditions or general concerns to appropriate staff, management, and licensed providers.
Participate in huddles and utilize situational awareness, always mindful of the environment.
Complete the environmental checklist or other general aspects of care environment associated with safety or quality assurance.
Assist with data collection, including patient observation checks, data management, and graphing of ongoing treatment plans.
Provide documentation of progress on treatment SMART goals and patient response to treatment.
Stay abreast and attend all required trainings on current documentation processes.
