About The Position

This role is for a Child Psychiatry Team Member working the night shift at the College Hill Campus. The position is part-time, 24 hours per week, with an expected starting pay range of $21.00 - $25.72 annualized. The team member will be accountable for delivering patient care by following processes and procedures, demonstrating resilience, and taking ownership of personal clinical development. They will support the team by sharing knowledge and adapting their communication style to effectively interact with diverse groups, including patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team. The role involves managing the assigned area by focusing on safety, structure, planning, participation, and support, performing environmental checks, and preventing/responding to escalations and crises using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention concepts. This may include physical restraint to ensure safety. The team member will also implement and document the patient's response to individualized care plans, potentially providing approved care as delegated, and engaging the patient's family and support system. Clinical activities include leading psychoeducation and recreational group activities, adapting content to patient needs, and implementing behavioral and educational protocols. Relationship development involves providing trauma-informed, relationship-based care, developing clinically appropriate rapport, and building a safe, stable, and nurturing environment. Documentation and data management are crucial, including accurate completion of seclusion and restraint documentation, escalating observations, completing environmental checklists, assisting with data collection, and documenting progress on treatment goals. Care delivery is team-based and may involve working with multiple patients, a specific 1:1 assignment, or managing a specific location.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 2+ years of experience or Bachelor's degree in related field
  • May require clinical license, certification or training.

  • Perform environmental checks while adhering to patient safety and treatment schedules.
  • Prevent and respond to escalations and crises utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention concepts, which may include physical restraint.
  • Take the lead role during a behavioral crisis and appropriately deploy interventions aligned with the stress model of crisis and patient treatment plans.
  • Ensure the work area is safe and organized and that treatment schedules are progressing appropriately.
  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols, complete all patient/safety checks, and follow patient observation level protocols.
  • Prepare the necessary materials for the patient populations.
  • Support the patient's stabilization from acute crisis in accordance with respective care location and patient needs.
  • Demonstrate collaborative efforts with the multidisciplinary team and escalate changes in patient conditions or concerns to management, appropriate staff, licensed providers, and approved parties.
  • Implement/document the patient's response to individualized care plans, which may include patient behavioral information collection or implementing behavioral/educational protocols.
  • Provide approved care to patients as delegated, including activities for daily living, intake and output, feeding, bathing, toileting, isolation precautions, and emergency care for patients with lines and tubes.
  • Engage the patient's family and support system in treatment plan as established in the medical record.
  • Provide updates to the approved parents and legal guardians regarding patient condition and progress.
  • Collaborate with all members of the multidisciplinary team and escalate changes in patient conditions using the documented escalation process or to a licensed staff member.
  • Participate in regular team planning meetings as appropriate or needed.
  • Assist the multidisciplinary team during patient care, and/or parent and staff training related to individual behavioral and education programs, data collection, and environmental modifications to promote patient success.
  • Lead psychoeducation and recreational group activities ensuring positive patient engagement and safe behaviors.
  • Adapt group content to meet the needs and the functional developmental level of the participating patients.
  • Implement behavioral and educational protocols as designed by psychology staff.
  • Provide insight into antecedent events, behaviors, and outcomes that may affect behavioral treatment.
  • Implement individualized and group behavior and education intervention plans as prescribed.
  • Utilize crisis intervention techniques as appropriate.
  • Participate in problem-solving of behavioral treatment options.
  • Provide trauma-informed, relationship-based care to a diverse patient population with an awareness of how personal experiences and biases impact interactions with others.
  • Adapt approach as needed and engage patients at their level of functioning while also recognizing the effects of trauma on each patient, including behavioral aggression.
  • Develop clinically appropriate rapport through a variety of care interactions, including interactions in the general care environment and during 1:1 patient assignment.
  • Engage in trauma-informed communication, positive engagement, and unconditional positive regard during all interactions with patients and caregivers.
  • Build and sustain an environment that is safe, stable, and nurturing.
  • Actively participate in team planning meetings, multidisciplinary team programming, creation and management of program materials, or special projects and during shift report/handoff.
  • Assure seclusion and restraint documentation is accurately completed within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Escalate observations of changes in patient conditions or any general concerns to the appropriate staff, management, and licensed provider.
  • Participate in huddles as appropriate and utilize situational awareness, always mindful of the environment.
  • Complete the environmental checklist or other general aspects of care environment associated with safety or quality assurance.
  • Assist with data collection included but not limited to patient observation checks, data management, and graphing of ongoing treatment plans.
  • Provide documentation of progress on treatment SMART goals and patient response to treatment.
  • Stay abreast and attend all required trainings on current documentation processes.
