About The Position

This position is for a Child Protective Services Casework Supervisor within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in Rockland, Maine. The role involves planning, coordinating, directing, and monitoring the activities of caseworkers and support staff in child protection, adoption, and substitute care. The supervisor will assess and assign casework loads, review and guide staff on cases and service delivery, and resolve critical situations. The position is open from May 12, 2026, to May 26, 2026, with a salary range of $77,542.40 – $103,064/yr., inclusive of a stipend, with an additional stipend for those with a related Master's Degree. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of education and/or professional experience in social work.
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a fully licensed social worker (LSW).
  • Recent experience in professional child welfare casework.
  • A thorough knowledge of and recent experience working with MACWIS/Katahdin.
  • Four years’ experience as a fully-licensed social worker.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • An LMSW or LCSW automatically meets the two (2) years fully licensed social worker experience requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and monitor the activities of caseworkers and support staff in child protection, adoption, and substitute care.
  • Assess and assign casework loads.
  • Review, monitor, and provide guidance to staff concerning cases and service delivery.
  • Research and work with staff and peers to resolve critical and crisis situations.
  • Ensure established quality service standards are maintained.
  • Confer with and counsel workers regarding casework to assist with difficult cases and caseload problems.
  • Review and compare work performance and/or products of staff with established standards to assess employee productivity levels and training needs.
  • Connect with other agencies and community resources to coordinate services, promote necessary community resources, and monitor cooperative agreements.
  • Evaluate and recommend program-wide changes and establish unit procedures and goals to upgrade the quality and continuity of services.
  • Coordinate activities between unit and service providers to effectively deliver social services to agency clients.
  • Authorize service provision and client/caseworker expenditures.
  • Negotiate various contracts and agreements with service providers and others to ensure appropriate services are provided.
  • Analyze and review cases to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, standards, and requirements, and initiate and participate in court hearings.
  • Direct, coordinate, and/or participate in after-hours coverage to ensure appropriate staffing.
