About The Position

The Child Passenger Safety Technician - Patient and Family Education role at Texas Health Southwest involves educating the community on child passenger safety using effective adult learning strategies. This position requires maintaining clear, confidential participant records and supporting the Child Automobile Safety Initiative through various activities. The technician will also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, act as a patient advocate, and foster positive relationships with families, coworkers, and physicians. Responsibilities include coordinating class/event scheduling, providing substitute coverage, mentoring new technicians, and participating in peer evaluations. The role may also involve travel to other Texas Health Resources (THR) locations to support child safety events and uphold public relations standards. Adherence to organizational policies, recognition and reporting of ethical or legal concerns, and contribution to process improvement are also key aspects of this position. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to enhance care continuity and support quality improvement efforts is expected.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
1 Year related healthcare, adult education, and/or community education experience Required
National Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification 6 Months Required
Effective communication skills, strong verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

Educate the community on child passenger safety using effective adult ‑ learning strategies while maintaining clear, confidential participant records.
Support the Child Automobile Safety Initiative by attending meetings, trainings, and completing quarterly fitting ‑ station events; maintain CPST certification.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, serve as a patient advocate, and foster positive relationships with families, coworkers, and physicians.
Coordinate and manage class/event scheduling, provide substitute coverage, mentor new technicians, and participate in peer evaluations.
Travel to other THR locations as needed to support child ‑ safety events and uphold high standards of public relations.
Follow all organizational policies, recognize and report ethical or legal concerns, and help identify and improve inefficient processes.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance care continuity and support system ‑ wide quality improvement efforts.
