About The Position

This position requires obtaining and maintaining a yellow bus driver’s license if employed after June 12, 2003. The purpose of this role is to manage and lead the Child Nutrition Program at the assigned school, including staff, facilities, food (purchased and USDA foods), supplies, and finances in a manner consistent with all USDA, state, and local regulations while producing palatable and nutritious meals.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and ServSafe principles in food preparation and storage, ability to apply those principles in daily management of the cafeteria, and to ensure the Child Nutrition Assistants and Child Nutrition Substitutes follow those principles.
  • Knowledge of the USDA Meal Pattern for NSLP and SBP, and what constitutes a reimbursable meal, and the ability to train Child Nutrition Assistants and Child Nutrition Substitutes to recognize the reimbursable meal.
  • Knowledge of how to read and follow a standardized recipe.
  • Strong math skills are necessary: to perform yield tests; to select utensils to correctly portion food; to figure amount of food to prepare in order to provide adequate food portions, for correctly completing a Production Record, to efficiently order food and supplies as required by the planned menu.
  • Ability to train Cafeteria Assistants and Child Nutrition Substitutes to correctly perform duties.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise daily work of all Cafeteria Assistants and Child Nutrition Substitutes to maximize productivity and to allow adherence to scheduled work hours for all staff as set by the Child Nutrition Director.
  • Knowledge of how to correctly use and clean all kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Experience using child nutrition computer software and basic office software.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, squat and reach overhead.
  • Must be able to physically withstand hours of heavy work under production pressure.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a yellow bus driver’s license (employed after June 12, 2003).
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience in quantity food preparation.
  • ServSafe certification.
  • Knowledge of the Child Nutrition Program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain program integrity and accountability by complying with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as district policies and procedures.
  • Create an environment that fosters employee productivity and satisfaction in the workplace.
  • Communication with the Child Nutrition Director by email, telephone, voicemail, and face-to-face as necessary and as directed.
  • Leadership for cafeteria staff in performing all tasks according to all USDA, state, and local regulations, including HACCP and ServSafe, including food preparation, cleaning, food receiving and storage, management of Free and Reduced student information, and finances.
  • Accurate daily completion of Production Records, deposits, and any other daily, weekly, or monthly reports required by the Child Nutrition Director.
  • Contacting Child Nutrition Substitutes as needed according to the Child Nutrition Director’s directive.
  • Food preparation and service to our students, staff, parents, etc.
  • Other duties as needed to ensure the program's efficiency.
