About The Position

This position is responsible for distributing information and processing applications for the free and reduced meal program, explaining eligibility criteria, and maintaining accurate records of applications. The role involves implementing USDA-funded program policies, maintaining meal participation data, and managing food service sales reports, collections, and deposits. The Cashier/Helper will also be responsible for accounting for and collecting monies for meals and charges, ensuring money security, and preparing daily sales and participation reports. Additionally, the position assists with meal preparation as directed by the Child Nutrition Manager and participates in professional development activities. Attendance at the work site is required to meet the essential functions of the job.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Five (5) years experience as a helper or cashier.
  • Ability to handle money quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions in English.
  • Possess current Food Handler's Card or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment with the district.
  • Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license/ID card.
  • Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
  • Must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
  • Have the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under pressure.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions.
  • Continual standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder).
  • Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute information and applications for free and reduced meals.
  • Explain eligibility criteria and procedures to parents and students.
  • Process and maintain a permanent file of applications by eligibility.
  • Implement policies and procedures of all programs funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • Maintain meal participation dates.
  • Maintain accurate records for all prepayment accounts.
  • Correspond with parents in reference to collecting and accounting for student lunch accounts.
  • Accurately account for and collect monies for prepaid, daily meals and charges.
  • Ensure money is secure at all times.
  • Deposit all monies following procedures developed by the YISD Accounting Department.
  • Prepare daily sales and participation reports.
  • Prepare snack bar reports.
  • Assist with preparation of meals.
  • Assist in the food preparation as directed by the Cafeteria Manager.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
