About The Position

This position is responsible for information distribution and eligibility for the free and reduced meal program, working under the direct supervision of the Child Nutrition Manager. The role involves maintaining accurate records of food service sales, collections, and deposits, and adhering to federal, state, and district policies and regulations. Essential functions include distributing information and applications for free and reduced meals, explaining eligibility criteria, processing applications, implementing USDA program policies, maintaining meal participation data, performing basic math, managing prepayment accounts, corresponding with parents regarding lunch accounts, accurately accounting for and collecting monies, ensuring money security, depositing funds, and preparing daily sales and participation reports, as well as snack bar reports. The role also includes assisting with meal preparation as directed by the Cafeteria Manager. Attendance at the work site is required. Other responsibilities include participating in professional development, following safety procedures, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to handle money quickly and accurately.
  • Possess current Food Handler's Card or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment with the district.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions in English.
  • Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license/ID card.
  • Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
  • Must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
  • Have the ability to handle multiple tasks while working under pressure.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and frequent interruptions.
  • Continual standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder).
  • Moderate exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute information and applications for free and reduced meals.
  • Explain eligibility criteria and procedures to parents and students.
  • Process and maintain a permanent file of applications by eligibility.
  • Implement policies and procedures of all programs funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • Maintain meal participation dates.
  • Maintain accurate records for all prepayment accounts.
  • Correspond with parents in reference to collecting and accounting for student lunch accounts.
  • Accurately account for and collect monies for prepaid, daily meals and charges.
  • Ensure money is secure at all times.
  • Deposit all monies following procedures developed by the YISD Accounting Department.
  • Prepare daily sales and participation reports.
  • Prepare snack bar reports.
  • Assist with preparation of meals.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
