About The Position

Under supervision, this role is responsible for preparing and serving foods in various food service settings such as a cafeteria, serving kitchen, or central food production center. The position also involves maintaining child nutrition facilities in a clean and sanitary condition, and performing related duties as required.

Requirements

• Ability to learn to operate machines found in school cafeterias and food production areas.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Ability to count money and make change.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
• Ability to perform some heavy manual labor.
• Knowledge of methods of preparing sandwiches, salads, desserts, and related food items.
• Knowledge of sanitation principles applicable to food serving and kitchen maintenance.
• Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Prepares vegetables, fruits, and other foods for cooking.
• Prepares salads, desserts, sandwiches, and beverages.
• May assist in the preparation of main dishes for cooking or in baking pastries and breads.
• Sets up for serving and serves a wide variety of lunches and snacks to students, faculty members, and other persons.
• Collects monies and makes change for the sale of school lunches, snacks, and other food stuffs.
• Cleans and stores dishes, utensils, cafeteria equipment and food supplies.
• Cleans work areas and disposes of refuse.
• Assists with packing and loading of food for transport from a central food distribution facility to serving kitchen.
• Prepares change boxes prior to the selling of food.
• Records inventory and order data.
