Under the direction of the Child Life Services Department leader, provides educational services for hospitalized patients in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Assist patients in completing schoolwork. Plans and implements supplementary educational activities. Coordinates homebound services for those patients who are unable to return to school after discharge. Maintains academic involvement with the patient’s home school by acting as a liaison between the hospital and the school. Obtains assignments and communicates special needs the patient may have upon re-entering the school environment. Provides appropriate patient chart notes regarding services rendered and information that could impact patient.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
  • State of Michigan teaching certificate.
  • One to two years teaching experience in a school or other educational setting.

  • A special education endorsement is preferred but not required.
