About The Position

Assists with supervision and maintenance of playrooms and teen rooms. Provides activities and play opportunities for patients. Assists with special events and supervises Child Life volunteers. Provides general support in daily tasks of Child Life Department. Is able to provide Child Life services in all areas covered by the Child Life Department. Operates within the Hospital, Mission, Vision and Values. Driscoll Children’s Hospital and its specialty centers, urgent care centers, and after-hours facility serve a vast area covering 31 South Texas counties. The hospital is a 191-bed tertiary care center offering 32 medical and 13 surgical specialties. Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in education, child development, or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintains Child Life activity areas, providing a therapeutic and safe environment.
  • Functions as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Documents Child Life activities in the patient chart.
  • Communicates observations and information to appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in volunteer orientations.
  • Supervises volunteers assigned to the Child life Department.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Attends hospital and department meetings as required.
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries with patients and families.
  • Assists with planning, coordinating, and facilitating special events.
  • Provides play opportunities, activities, and developmental stimulation for patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
