About The Position

St. Louis Children's Hospital is seeking a Child Life Assistant II to join their team, servicing the Hematology/Oncology and PICU units. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and/or within a hospital system, along with strong communication, collaboration, and independent work skills with direction. The Child Life Assistant II acts as a clinical partner to the Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) in delivering patient and family-centered care. This role involves introducing Child Life services, coordinating inpatient medical needs by notifying CCLS, and assisting families with CL supplies and resources. The CLA II is responsible for the safety and security of patients and families in playrooms, the teen lounge, during special events, and support groups. They also supervise, oversee, and direct the operations of CL areas and the work of volunteers.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • A clinical partner to the Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) in delivering patient and family centered care by completing introduction of services, coordination of clinical procedures by notifying CCLS of upcoming procedures and tests and obtaining needed Child Life (CL) resources.
  • Responsible for the daily safety and security of all patients and visitors in any of the areas designated for play (CL playrooms, TL) and during special events by assuring that safety/security policies and practices are consistently followed.
  • Daily maintains an orderly and safe environment for all patients and families.
  • Daily completes charting in patient’s medical records.
  • Oversees the daily roles and responsibilities of volunteers on the inpatients floors and during special events by directing them to priority patients and guiding their work.
