About The Position

The Child Care Worker (CCW) works to care for young children whose parents are attending a program at the Centre. The CCW works on an as needed basis in the EarlyON location at Carlington CHC, alongside RECE’s, to support the playgroups and programs offered through the EarlyO programs.

Requirements

  • Baby Sitter Course an asset.
  • Any Early Years training or courses.
  • Valid First Aid (Standard) and CPR (infant and child) certificates.
  • Minimum of one year’s full-time experience working with children ages 0 – 6.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Experience in a non-profit, community-based organization.
  • Ability to supervise children in a manner consistent with the goals and philosophy of the program and the community health Centre.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic, adaptable, and responsible.
  • Committed to the healthy development of children.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of marginalized and diverse clientele.

Nice To Haves

  • Availability to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment an asset.
  • Other languages relevant to our client population are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the set-up with age appropriate activities.
  • Participates in all activates and transitions to ensure smooth running of the program.
  • Engages children in developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Performs all necessary set up and clean up functions, including toy cleaning and disinfecting as requested.
  • May contact parents if required.
  • Prepares and serves a snack if required.
  • Works respectfully and responsively with children and their families and caregivers.
  • Ensures a safe and secure environment.
  • Maintains awareness of children’s allergies and takes appropriate precautionary measures.
  • Models appropriate child guidance techniques.
  • Provides direct supervision to the children.
  • Participates in assigned administration duties (including but not limited to children’s attendance, parent check-in, registration forms, health needs and conditions) as requested.
  • May prepare resources and activities to be used in the groups session(s) or workshop(s) under the direction of the RECE’s.
