About The Position

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The candidate should be at least 18 years of age and experienced in working with children. A basic love for children and a commitment to teaching are essential. The candidate MUST pass a criminal history and child abuse background check.

  • Regularly required to use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, taste and smell.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or the appropriate field
  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • At least two years of experience as a teacher’s aide or other related work

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  • Plan activities compatible to the development of the whole child concept.
  • Monthly overview and weekly lesson plans are to be given to the director. Include objectives.
  • Supervise students in Early Childhood Education Technology program during observation and practicum (student teaching).
  • Supervise children in class. Never leave children unattended.
  • Tend to physical needs of the children.
  • Keep room neat, attractive, and safe. This includes cleaning and sanitizing chairs and tables daily.
  • Serve children snacks and lunch; clean and sanitize tables and chairs after completing snacks and lunch.
  • Be prepared for class time. Check out needed supplies from resource room ahead of time. Return resource materials when finished.
  • Participate in parent conferences. These should be arranged through administration.
  • Continue education by attending college, workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. Obtain PDI and in-service hours.
  • Participate in staff meetings or training sessions.
  • In the event of absence, make appropriate arrangements about lesson plans, supplies, etc.
  • Set a good example for children by modeling good behavior and correct grammar.
  • Check in upon arrival and out when leaving. Adhere to assigned hours unless other arrangements have been made.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the director and/or that are in the best interest of the center.
