About The Position

The Educational Program Coordinator is responsible to ensure our centers are delivering a high-quality learning environment for all children. As an employee of the Old Colony Y, s/he will be committed to creating, maintaining, promoting and implementing high quality care for children in a safe setting with opportunities for physical, academic, social and emotional development. The Coordinator should have good judgment, an ability to weigh priorities, adaptability to changing policies and practices and the ability to coach others. The Coordinator will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and the regulating agency. S/He will display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties, as well as perform the following job functions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet EEC requirements for education and experience for Lead Teacher.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Evidence of physical examination within last 12 months.
  • Immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and work and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
  • Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
  • Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 75lbs on occasion and 40lbs frequently (children) and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Ability to thoroughly understand Y-USA's three focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility; proven ability to identify and meet the needs of the health seeker.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement Blueprint Curriculum and create lesson plans as needed.
  • Complete child assessments, documentation, connect with families and to grow each staff’s professional knowledge on an ongoing basis.
  • Gear the lesson plans to the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests, abilities and needs, special talents, cultural diversity as well as classroom arraignment, appearance and overall learning environment.
  • Understand and ensure EEC regulations and NAEYC standards as well as Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy) are maintained at all times.
  • Review weekly lesson plans.
  • Ensure children’s assessments and parent conferences are completed accordingly.
  • Assist in creating monthly newsletters/keeping a parent board up to date/planning family engagement activities.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including accident reports, incident reports, attendance records regular anecdotal notes and documentation.
  • Act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, Y personnel and potential clients.
  • Mentor and model appropriate behaviors in a classroom with adherence to EEC regulations, Employee Handbook and Youth Care Policy.
  • Conduct monthly classroom observations, document and maintain log book.
  • Understand policies and procedures related to curriculum in the center, e.g. EEC regulations, Employee Handbook and Youth Care Policy.
  • Maintain the staff training log, fire drill log, and daily schedules.
  • Complete classroom and staff observations.
  • Prepare and present an educational enhancement at monthly staff meetings.
  • Assist with the design of the program for the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, capabilities, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Establish and maintain effective training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
  • Provide input for performance evaluations.
  • Assist with monthly staff meetings.
  • Assist with supervising, training and evaluating of child care staff and volunteers.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and all child care meetings.
  • Act as a positive role model-Model appropriate supervision and guidance.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to childcare staff and volunteers.
  • In the absence of the childcare director, act as a point of contact and facilitate day to day programming.
  • Organize purchase of supplies through Child Care Director.
  • Ensure maximum enrollment is achieved.
  • Assist with the Annual Campaign and other fund-raising events.
  • Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, such as purchase orders, employee expense forms, member balances and appropriate safekeeping of tuition payments.
  • Maintain and ensure a clean, organized, and safe program space.
  • Communicate to appropriate staff facility issues which need to be addressed in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate on assigned committees and with the Y’s Annual Campaign.
  • Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
  • Attend at least 20 hours of childcare training annually.
