About The Position

Upper Canada Child Care is seeking a Cook to join their Team in Keswick at the W.J Watson PS location. This is a full-time position (25 hours/week) requiring availability for a 5-hour shift Monday-Friday. Upper Canada Child Care is a non-profit licensed provider operating since 1983, with over 85 centers. They offer various programs including full-day, before and after school, summer camps, and forest school. Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in food preparation and serving.
  • Food handler certification.
  • A recent Vulnerable Sector Check
  • At least 18 years of age or older due to licensing requirements.
  • Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen appliances and laundry equipment.
  • Knowledge of Canada’s food guide.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers and other professionals.
  • Have the physical stamina and ability to kneel, bend, lift and stand for extended periods.
  • Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required; including but not limited to kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, carrying and reaching.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a safe and healthy environment that is in compliance with all internal and external guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Plans, prepares and delivers wholesome and nutritious foods according to set standards and regulations. Follows a set menu while adhering to allergy/dietary restrictions of children.
  • Responsible for ordering, purchasing, receiving and unpacking of food and supplies while respecting set budgets. Shopping at local stores may be required.
  • Maintains centre inventory, ensures freshness and minimizes waste.
  • Applies knowledge of public health requirements relating to food preparation, storage, dishwashing and general cleaning/disinfecting practices.
  • Loads and unloads centre dishwasher. Hand-washes dishes and supplies as needed.
  • Operates laundry machines. Folds and maintains laundry as needed.
  • Records temperatures (food) and completes checklists/logs as required. Keeps all kitchen and house keeping records up-to-date.
  • Keeps team and supervisor apprised of compliance issues or problems related to outside regulations and internal policy.
