About The Position

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is hiring a part-time Child Care Assistant for its before- and after-school School Age Programs serving schools in Davidson County’s North Nashville community. The role supports children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental development in a fun, safe, and engaging environment. The position is ongoing during the 2026–2027 school year and is not temporary or summer-only. The starting pay is $15 per hour, with the possibility of a higher rate based on childcare experience listed in the application or resume. The scheduled care periods are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m.–8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.–6 p.m.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be enthusiastic, organized, and team-oriented, with a passion for youth development.
• Must have strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills and the ability to multitask.
• Must be available Monday through Friday and commit to ongoing employment during the 2026–2027 school year.
• Must be able to see and hear children clearly, move quickly to ensure their safety, lift up to 40 pounds, and spend time standing, bending, and outdoors in changing weather.
• Before the first shift, complete orientation, DHS background check, fingerprinting, Abuse Registry Check, health forms, training sessions, and references.
• Obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification for Infant/Pediatric within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage a group of 15–20 children in indoor and outdoor activities.
• Set up and transform program spaces into child-friendly environments and maintain cleanliness.
• Help implement a quality curriculum aligned with YMCA guidelines.
• Build positive relationships with YMCA staff, school personnel, and families.
• Help ensure site licensing and quality standards are maintained.
