This role, Child Care Assistant Supervisor, assists in the delivery of programs in accordance with government regulations and The Salvation Army requirements, supporting the planning and implementation of age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences that promote children’s development.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from a recognized institution or equivalent
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Minimum 2 - 4 years of experience in a licensed childcare setting as RECE
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to support and guide educators in program implementation
  • Must be able to lift 30lbs unassisted
  • Knowledge of childcare regulations and best practices
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Calm, patient, and nurturing approach with children
  • Commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission and values
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and First Aid/ CPR level C.
  • Compliance with The Salvation Army’s child protection protocols
  • Completion of required training (e.g., Armatus Abuse Training)
  • Adherence to all policies, procedures, and code of conduct
  • Valid G2 Driver’s License and Driver Abstract in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in administration or a related field
  • 1 - 2 years of leadership experience in a licensed childcare setting
  • Experience in admin positions
  • Experience supporting or mentoring staff

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of programs in accordance with government regulations and The Salvation Army requirements.
  • Support the planning and implementation of age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences that promote children’s development.
  • Guide and support educators in implementing a relationship-focused, emergent curriculum aligned with How Does Learning Happen?
  • Role model appropriate behaviors and attitudes that support children’s growth and development.
  • Support the inclusion of biblical values and The Salvation Army’s mission within daily programming.
  • Provide support with participant intake, orientation of families, and ongoing communication regarding children’s progress.
  • Support the Supervisor in providing direction, guidance, and coaching to staff.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, daily room coverage, and maintaining appropriate ratios.
  • Participate in staff orientation, mentoring, and support of students and volunteers.
  • Contribute to performance feedback and support a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Assist in facilitating staff meetings and professional development initiatives.
  • Support compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), licensing requirements, and internal policies.
  • Assist in maintaining health and safety standards including supervision, sanitation, food safety, and medication protocols.
  • Monitor documentation, attendance records, and ensure confidentiality of all information.
  • Assist in completing incident reports and ensuring proper follow-up procedures.
  • Support program evaluations and Program Statement implementation monitoring.
  • Build positive relationships with families, providing ongoing communication and support.
  • Support community partnerships with schools, agencies, and local organizations.
  • Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for children and families.
  • Assist the Supervisor with administrative tasks including record keeping, documentation, and reporting.
  • Support payroll preparation, supply ordering, and inventory tracking.
  • Ensure resources and materials are used responsibly in alignment with budget guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
