About The Position

Fueling Brains Academy is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child Care Aide to provide direct support to children in our West 85th Academy. The Child Care Aide will assist in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment, working closely with educators to support children’s development and well-being. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in childcare, early childhood education, or supporting children with developmental needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (required).
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children with developmental delays, special needs, or behavioral challenges (e.g., Autism, ADHD, ODD).
  • Experience in early childhood education, daycare, or inclusive learning environments.
  • Familiarity with positive behavior support strategies and developmental milestones.
  • Strong patience, empathy, and understanding in working with children with diverse needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively with children, educators, and families.
  • Ability to adapt, take initiative, and follow structured routines.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Capacity to handle physical demands, including assisting with lifting children (up to 40 lbs).
  • Ability to take constructive feedback and implement strategies to improve support.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within the last 6 months).

Nice To Haves

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level 1, Education Assistant Certificate, or Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma.
  • Additional training or certification in behavioral support, special education, or child development is an asset.
  • Successful completion of training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to children, ensuring their safety, engagement, and participation in activities.
  • Assist with daily care routines, including dressing, toileting, diapering, feeding, and hygiene support.
  • Foster a calm, structured, and positive learning environment by supporting classroom routines and transitions.
  • Encourage social-emotional development and assist children in developing self-regulation and executive function skills.
  • Observe and document child behavior, progress, and any concerns, reporting to the lead teacher or leadership team as needed.
  • Assist in implementing individualized support strategies for children with developmental delays, behavioral needs, or special requirements.
  • Use positive behavior guidance techniques to support children in managing emotions and interactions.
  • Follow approved intervention strategies and, when necessary, assist with crisis intervention techniques as per Fueling Brains Academy guidelines.
  • Assist educators with preparing learning materials and classroom resources, ensuring they are ready for daily activities.
  • Support in organizing and maintaining a clean, safe, and inviting classroom environment.
  • Engage in interactive play and structured learning activities that align with Fueling Brains’ educational approach.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure a seamless educational experience for children.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, team members, and leadership, maintaining a professional and positive demeanor.
  • Demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and apply new strategies to support children's diverse needs.

Benefits

  • Wage: $18–$22/hour (depending on experience)
