About The Position

The Child and Youth Worker will coordinate and facilitate community based child and youth programs. The Child and Youth Worker will provide educational services, support and advocacy, and participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in child and youth work
  • Child and Youth Worker or Early Childhood Education Diploma
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Must speak French, job Option 1
  • Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Current CPR level C, First Aid and Food Handlers Certification
  • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Working knowledge and use of major computer programs
  • Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques
  • Effective at communicating and problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of French an asset, Job Option 2

Responsibilities

  • Direct service with children 6-12 years at an After School Program
  • Plans programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate community based programs, providing required stats to Lead Child and Youth Worker and entering groups information into database
  • Provide updates and contact with parents when necessary
  • Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming
  • Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, recreation centres
  • Ensure all program safety measures being met
  • Works closely with and support program staff, volunteers, and student placements
