About The Position

The Valley Regional Hospital is seeking a child and adolescent psychiatrist to work on a 0.4 full-time equivalency (FTE) basis in community outpatient services. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative community outpatient team. The psychiatry service supports various programs including rural satellite clinics for mental health and addictions, seniors mental health, community outreach teams, clozapine and depot clinics, consult services for adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, consultation with medical units and emergency departments, and full Child and Adolescent Clinical Services. This is a cohesive team with members from diverse backgrounds dedicated to providing quality care. Valley Regional Hospital (VRH), located in Kentville, serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties and provides specialty services as a referral center for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia. VRH is a 137 inpatient bed facility providing inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care to approximately 80,000 residents.

Requirements

Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or proof of alternative coverage

Responsibilities

Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care
Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
Participate in program development
Provide direct clinical outpatient care
Provide emergency medicine services in conjunction with our crisis team
Offer consultations to other physicians and rural clinics
Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned
