About The Position

Blackbird Health is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join their Frederick, MD team. This role involves delivering comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, and medication management for children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 2-26). The PMHNP will build meaningful connections with patients and families, providing education and ongoing support. The position offers a hybrid work model, combining virtual telehealth with designated onsite clinical days in Frederick, MD. Multiple employment tracks are available, including 1099 Contractor, W2 Part-Time, and W2 Full-Time, each with different pay structures, commitments, and benefits.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited nursing program
  • PMHNP-BC certification
  • At least one year of independent psychiatric experience working under licensure
  • Active Maryland PMHNP / CRNP / APN license
  • Active DEA license
  • Maryland State Prescriptive Authority
  • Ability to work a hybrid model with designated onsite clinical days at our Frederick, MD location, alongside virtual telehealth capability
  • At least 1+ year of experience specializing in child and adolescent populations (ages 2–26)
  • Availability to cover peak clinical hours (after 3:00 PM ET weekdays and/or weekends)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and diagnoses for children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans and provide medication management that addresses the unique needs of each patient.
  • Spend the necessary time with patients and families to truly understand their experiences, educate them about treatment options, and provide ongoing support.
  • Build connection and trust that keeps patients engaged in their care journey.
  • Monitor patient progress against care goals, adjusting treatment plans as needed to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Take the necessary steps to keep patients safe, intervening proactively when concerns arise.
  • Work closely with therapists and other healthcare professionals to create integrated treatment plans that address the whole child.
  • Participate in regular team and supervisory clinical meetings to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Provide consultation and education to patients and their families, helping them understand diagnoses, treatment options, and how to support their child's mental health journey.
  • Oversee diagnostic testing including digital and lab results.
  • Maintain thorough, HIPAA-compliant records of patient meetings and progress.
