About The Position

The Child Abuse Pediatrician - Medical Director has the authority and responsibility for the medical services at the Spurwink Center for Safe and Healthy Families. The Center is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals including Psychologists, Social Workers, Pediatricians, and Nurse Practitioners who provide child-friendly, expert evaluations of children who may have been abused.

Requirements

  • Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine
  • Board certification in Child Abuse Pediatrics and General Pediatrics
  • Current State of Maine licensure required
  • At least five (5) years of experience working in the field of Child Abuse Pediatrics
  • Documented ability to relate in a positive manner with patients, co-workers, and community providers
  • Documented supervisory and clinical management skills necessary to develop, supervise, and motivate staff in the day-to-day clinical operations of a program

Responsibilities

  • Performs medical evaluations of children at the Spurwink Center for Safe and Healthy Families for various forms of abuse (program sees approximately 1200 children a year from throughout the state).
  • Performs medical evaluations of children at assigned outlying clinic in Lewiston, Bangor, and Augusta, Maine.
  • Performs medical exams for the Children's Advocacy Centers.
  • Oversee the work of all physicians and learners, including residents and medical students assigned for training.
  • Participates in the education of fellows, resident physicians and medical students.
  • Provides support and direction to program nurse practitioners and child abuse pediatrician.
