About The Position

The Chief People Officer (CPO) is the senior executive responsible for AKBH’s people, culture, workforce, organizational learning, communications, and community management strategy. The CPO serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO, executive leadership, and, as requested, the Board of Directors on organizational health, workforce strategy, leadership capability, succession, employment risk, culture, communications, and other significant people-related matters. The CPO leads Human Resources, Training, Community Relations and Communications, ensuring these functions strengthen organizational effectiveness, workforce capability, employee experience, and AKBH’s ability to achieve its mission and strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Management, or a related field required
  • Significant progressive leadership experience in Human Resources, People Operations, organizational development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading workforce strategy, talent management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, leadership development, and organizational change.
  • Strong strategic and organizational judgment with comprehensive knowledge of human resources and workforce practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior leaders, manage complex and sensitive matters, and translate organizational priorities into effective workforce strategies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and change-management skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage competing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Senior HR certification such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR preferred
  • Experience leading multiple functions or senior leaders preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an enterprise People strategy that advances organizational effectiveness and aligns workforce, culture, leadership, and organizational capability with AKBH’s strategic and financial priorities.
  • Lead the HR, Training, and Community Relations and Communications departments, establishing strategic direction, priorities, accountability, performance expectations, and effective coordination across functions.
  • Advise the CEO, executive leadership, and, as requested, the Board on organizational health, workforce trends and risk, succession, executive compensation, culture, and other significant people-related matters.
  • Lead organizational change and partner with executives to strengthen organizational structure, leadership effectiveness, accountability, employee experience, and performance.
  • Shape enterprise workforce and talent strategies to ensure AKBH has the capacity, capabilities, leadership pipeline, and talent required to meet current and future organizational needs.
  • Provide strategic oversight of talent acquisition, retention, performance management, succession, leadership development, organizational learning, and professional development.
  • Champion a positive workplace culture grounded in AKBH's mission, values, professionalism and service.
  • Provide executive oversight of significant employee relations, employment compliance, investigations, workforce risk, and other sensitive or high-impact people matters.
  • Direct AKBH’s compensation and total-rewards strategy to support workforce competitiveness, internal equity, organizational sustainability, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure effective governance of People operations, policies, HR technology, workforce data, compliance, and related systems through accountable functional leadership.
  • Use workforce analytics and organizational insights to inform executive decision-making, workforce investments, organizational planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the CFO on workforce budgets, labor costs, compensation and benefit planning, forecasting, and significant workforce investments.
  • Set strategic direction for AKBH’s internal and external communications, community relations, stakeholder engagement, organizational messaging, and reputation.
  • Ensure major organizational priorities, initiatives, and changes are supported by coordinated communication and stakeholder-engagement strategies.
  • Strengthen AKBH’s organizational visibility, community relationships, and stakeholder trust in partnership with the CEO, executive leadership, and Community Relations and Communications Director.
  • Model executive judgment, integrity, accountability, collaboration, confidentiality, and commitment to AKBH’s mission.
  • Perform other executive responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.
