About The Position

Teachstone is seeking a Chief People Officer (CPO) to shape the company's next phase of growth by building leadership systems, organizational clarity, and performance discipline. The CPO will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team, strengthening leadership effectiveness, organizational clarity, and performance accountability while preserving the mission-driven culture. Success in this role within the first 12-24 months will include a clearly defined leadership standard, a fully implemented performance management system tied to business outcomes, and an organizational structure aligned to strategic growth priorities. The ideal candidate is both a strategic advisor and operational leader who understands how organizations evolve as they grow and can help leadership teams navigate change, strengthen management capability, and implement systems that enable sustained organizational performance.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in People & Culture, organizational development, and enterprise organizational change.
  • Demonstrated ability to build performance-driven cultures while maintaining strong employee engagement.
  • Proven experience leading organizations through significant change, including scaling growth-stage companies, strengthening performance accountability, or evolving operating models.
  • Extensive experience partnering with CEOs and Boards of Directors on sensitive issues involving organizational design and leadership capability.
  • A track record of strengthening professional discipline and accountability within a deeply mission-driven culture.
  • Demonstrated success leading and scaling people strategy for a remote-first or distributed organization.
  • Designs and implements structures and processes that enable effective collaboration, organizational scale, and successful execution of enterprise priorities.
  • Experienced in leading organizations through change, helping leaders and teams adopt new ways of working while maintaining engagement and alignment.
  • Serves as a trusted, objective coach to senior leaders, providing candid feedback necessary to keep the executive team aligned.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Teachstone’s people strategy, organizational design, and leadership systems to enable execution of the company’s strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on organizational design, leadership effectiveness, and talent strategy, ensuring Teachstone’s structure, leadership capability, and workforce systems enable the company’s strategic priorities and transformation goals.
  • Partner closely with the CEO on leadership and talent strategy and with the COO on translating strategy into scalable operating systems, ensuring clarity of roles, decision rights, and accountability.
  • Help the organization operate with greater clarity, accountability, and consistency, enabling leaders to build strong teams and deliver meaningful results.
  • Oversee the People Strategy Team, ensuring practices support a fair, transparent, and high performing workplace.
  • Strengthened Leadership Capability: Ensure Teachstone has a leadership team capable of executing the company’s strategy by strengthening leadership expectations, management effectiveness, and executive alignment, enabling leaders to successfully guide their teams through ongoing organizational change.
  • A More Accountable and Scalable Organization: Establish organizational structures and performance systems that promote clarity of roles, measurable outcomes, and effective decision-making. Define and implement clear KPIs, decision rights, and performance cadences that reinforce accountability across all levels.
  • Talent Aligned to Strategic Growth: Ensure the organization has the leadership talent, capabilities, and workforce structure required to support Teachstone’s evolving business model and long-term growth objectives. Align workforce planning directly to revenue, product, and impact priorities.
  • Organizational Effectiveness and Transformation: Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team to strengthen organizational alignment, leadership effectiveness, and operational clarity. Evaluate and evolve organizational structures to improve accountability, cross-functional collaboration, and enable successful execution of Teachstone’s strategic priorities. Lead the design and evolution of the company’s operating model, including decision rights, team structures, and execution rhythms.
  • Talent Strategy and Leadership Development: Develop and execute a company-wide talent strategy. Partner with the CEO on executive hiring, leadership assessment, and succession planning. Champion an inclusion strategy that ensures equitable access to development opportunities while strengthening organizational performance and outcomes.
  • Performance and Accountability Systems: Design and implement performance management systems that reinforce clear expectations, measurable outcomes, and leadership accountability, ensuring they actively support and reinforce Teachstone’s operating model and performance expectations.
  • Workforce Planning and Organizational Design: Lead strategic workforce planning to ensure Teachstone has the right capacity to support its evolving strategy; partner with Finance to align workforce investments with business priorities using people analytics to drive data informed decisions and evaluate strategy effectiveness.
  • People Strategy Team: Oversee HR business partnership, employee relations, benefits, and compliance, ensuring a strong operational foundation that enables consistent execution of Teachstone’s people strategy and business priorities.
  • Phase I: Foundational Alignment & Assessment (Months 0–6): Conduct a comprehensive assessment of Teachstone’s leadership bench, organizational design, and talent systems to identify strengths, gaps, and readiness for organizational change. Partner with the CEO and executive team to align on a focused 12-month People Roadmap that supports the company’s strategic transformation and identifies key leadership and capability gaps.
  • Phase II: Leadership Standards & Talent Frameworks (Months 6–9): Define and introduce the Teachstone Leadership Standard, establishing clear expectations for leadership, management effectiveness, and accountability to support consistent execution across the organization. Design and pilot a refined performance management framework that aligns employee goals with organizational priorities.
  • Phase III: Talent & Performance Integration (Months 9–12): Launch the performance management framework to ensure employees have clear, measurable goals aligned to strategic priorities. Identify critical roles and establish succession pathways while strengthening internal development opportunities to support long-term organizational resilience.
