About The Position

The Chief People Officer will play a critical leadership role in shaping the workforce strategy, employee experience, and organizational culture for Hermann Services, Inc. within the transportation, warehousing, and logistics industry. This is an opportunity to join a growing fourth-generation family-owned organization where leadership visibility, employee engagement, and culture truly matter. The Chief People Officer will play a key role in helping shape Hermann’s next chapter as the company approaches its 100 Year Celebration. This position will serve as a strategic business partner to executive leadership while also maintaining a highly hands-on approach to all aspects of human resources management. The CPO will lead initiatives focused on talent acquisition, workforce planning, leadership development, employee engagement, retention, performance management, compliance, and organizational development. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and forward-thinking HR leader who can build strong relationships across all levels of the organization while helping drive a positive, safety-focused, and people-centered culture.

Requirements

  • Strong executive-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing recruiting, workforce planning, and retention strategies in a competitive environment.
  • Strong organizational development and employee engagement experience with the ability to foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Knowledge of compensation strategy, healthcare insurance, employee benefits, wellness initiatives, and performance management systems.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, and change management skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership responsibilities with a highly hands-on management style.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in sensitive situations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in human resources management with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, employee relations, HR compliance, and HR best practices.

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar HR certification preferred.
  • Experience within the transportation, warehousing, logistics, or supply chain industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop organizational strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues; contributing information, analysis, and recommendations to organizational strategic thinking and direction; establishing human resources objectives aligned with company goals.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to executive leadership in support of organizational growth, workforce planning, employee engagement, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Implement and oversee all human resources functions including talent acquisition, staffing, onboarding, compensation, benefits administration, training and development, records management, employee relations, retention initiatives, labor relations, and compliance.
  • Develop recruiting and workforce planning strategies to support company growth across transportation, warehousing, logistics, and corporate operations.
  • Lead and support employee engagement initiatives designed to strengthen company culture, morale, retention, and overall employee experience.
  • Partner with operational leadership to reinforce Hermann’s strong safety-first culture and employee accountability initiatives.
  • Oversee human resources operations by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and developing HR staff and employees throughout the organization.
  • Support management by providing human resources guidance, counsel, problem-solving, and decision-making support.
  • Guide management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines while communicating and reinforcing organizational values.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and multi-state employment laws and regulations by monitoring legislative changes, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising leadership on necessary actions.
  • Manage payroll and benefits providers to design and administer competitive employee benefits, compensation, wellness, and recognition programs.
  • Lead and support planning efforts surrounding Hermann Services’ upcoming 100 Year Celebration, partnering cross-functionally to drive employee engagement, company culture, and brand pride throughout the organization.
  • Serve as a strategic and highly engaged liaison to the Rutgers Road to Supply Chain Program, representing Hermann as a founding member while actively participating in student engagement, workforce development initiatives, mentorship and internship opportunities, recruiting efforts, and program growth.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HR trends, regulations, and best practices through conferences, educational opportunities, professional organizations, and networking.
  • Enhance the reputation of the HR department and Hermann Services by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests while continuously identifying opportunities to add value to the organization.
