Responsible for Division operations in the absence of the Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent. This role involves training operators in the proper operation of Surface Water Treatment/Groundwater Treatment plant, pump station, and well system. The Chief Operator supervises and evaluates plant operators, conducts updates on regulations, safety, operating techniques, and testing. They also operate the filter plant, pump station, and well system as a relief operator as needed, and prepare the monthly work schedule for the 24-hour operation of the plant and pump station. Additionally, this position conducts tours of the plant for groups and individuals, orders water treatment chemicals and other supplies, and coordinates plant maintenance requirements with the maintenance foreman. The Chief Operator responds to customer complaint calls, completes weekly field inspection reports, and uses calculations to assist operators in determining and correctly setting chemical feed rates. They ensure operators are correctly documenting/reporting data, organize and maintain records, and ensure operators adhere to division and city policies. This role involves using and maintaining analytical equipment, serving as a relief operator, preparing reports for management and TCEQ, and ensuring the proper operation and appearance of the public water system. This position requires 100% on-site work and performs other duties as required.
