Summary: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Memorial Cancer Institute (MCI) provides executive leadership and operational oversight for the institute. The COO will ensure the delivery of high quality, compassionate care across all cancer center network sites, including hospital inpatient, hospital outpatient treatment centers, physician practices, and cancer programs.The COO will partner closely with physician, clinical and research leadership and administrative teams to advance patient care, research, and education. The COO will focus on operational efficiency, financial sustainability, growth strategy, community and staff engagement, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Masters (Required)
  • AHCA Background Screening (AHCA) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, strong analytical skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, with at least five (5) years in senior operational leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-site ambulatory and hospital-based service lines.
  • Proven track record of financial accountability.
  • Demonstrated success leading large interdisciplinary teams through growth, change, and operational transformation.
  • Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field required.

  • Prior leadership experience within oncology services is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee budget development and financial performance, including revenue cycle optimization, expense management, capital planning, and sustainable growth strategies.
  • Physician Collaboration: Partner with medical directors, physician leaders and employed oncologists, surgeons, and specialty providers to drive alignment, performance, access, productivity, engagement, and quality outcomes.
  • Service Line Growth and Program Development: Identify and execute opportunities for program expansion, clinical innovation, research integration, and community partnerships.
  • Multi-Site Operational Oversight: Direct day-to-day operations across ambulatory, infusion, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and ancillary services to ensure seamless, standardized care delivery.
  • Stakeholder and System Collaboration: Collaborate with executive leadership, hospital operations, academic partners, community organizations, and public health agencies to advance the Institute’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Operational Strategy and Execution: Support the development and execution of operational strategies across all Cancer Institute sites, ensuring alignment with system priorities and community health needs.
  • Capital and Infrastructure Planning: Lead facility planning, technology implementation, and operational readiness for new programs, equipment, and site expansions.
  • Workforce and Culture Leadership: Foster a high-performance culture across clinical and operational teams, including talent development, workforce planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
