Chief of Staff

1XSan Carlos, CA
Onsite

About The Position

1X is building humanoid robots for home use, aiming to give people their time back by handling chores and tasks. This involves solving complex challenges in robotics, AI, and manufacturing simultaneously, at scale, and in a safe form factor for home environments. The company has been developing these robots since 2014 and is now focused on shipping its flagship product, NEO. The role is for individuals inspired by solving significant problems and seeing them reach the world, contributing to a company that aims to change how humans spend their time by creating abundance safely for all. The Chief of Staff will operate at the center of the executive team, ensuring the CEO's time is focused on the highest-leverage activities and that the business remains aligned with strategic priorities. The goal is to enable the CEO to be fully leveraged rather than a bottleneck.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in fast-moving operator roles: Chief of Staff, strategy & operations, top-tier consulting, investing paired with operating, or a founding role.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving cross-functional initiatives to completion in environments with real technical and operational complexity.
  • Experience running planning and prioritization processes (OKRs, quarterly planning, or equivalent) that leadership actually adopted.
  • Exceptional written communication. You can produce a decision memo, a board update, or an all-hands narrative on short notice.
  • Willing and able to work in-person at our San Carlos office.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Chief of Staff experience reporting directly to a founder or CEO of a scaling hardware, robotics, AI, or deep-tech company.
  • Background at a top-tier consulting or investing firm paired with a real operating role at a high-growth company.
  • Experience designing internal communications rhythms (all-hands, board updates, weekly business reviews).
  • Comfort translating between technical and business audiences with equal fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the operating partner to the CEO and the connective tissue across the leadership team.
  • Ensure the highest-leverage work gets the CEO’s time and the rest of the business stays aligned around it.
  • Keep leadership executing against a shared set of priorities.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives to completion.
  • Turn operating rhythms into durable systems.
  • Ensure high-quality decisions are made faster because information is synthesized, tradeoffs are clear, and recommendations are ready.
  • Ensure the leadership team executes toward the same priorities with fewer conflicting initiatives.
  • Ensure company initiatives that span engineering, operations, product, finance, and people actually ship.
  • Transform leadership meetings into decision forums instead of status updates, and resolve conflict earlier.
  • Establish OKRs, planning cadence, metrics, reviews, and communication rhythms as repeatable systems.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave
  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)
