About The Position

US Mobile is building the future of wireless communication with the goal of a unified network open to any person and any device, worldwide. They are empowering customers with multiple network options, home internet, no lock-in, custom plans, and 24/7 customer support. The company values real-time feedback and has been recognized by The Wirecutter and Consumer Reports. They are building innovative, scalable systems with a network-agnostic tech stack, agile teams, and AI-driven finance. This role is for a fast, flexible, and collaborative individual who maintains high standards. As Chief of Staff to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), you will serve as the CAO's strategic and operational partner in a rapidly growing company with over $300M in revenue and 700 employees across multiple countries. The CAO's organization encompasses finance, accounting, HR, legal, compliance, and operations. Your primary responsibilities will be company-wide budgeting and risk management. You will build, manage, and improve the annual budget and monthly budget-vs-actual processes for all departments and entities. You will also develop and own the company's risk program, including the risk register, insurance program, compliance and audit calendar, and internal controls. Additionally, you will translate the CAO's priorities into actionable plans, ensure cross-departmental progress, and prevent important initiatives from stalling. This is a hands-on role offering significant exposure to the operations of a large carrier.

  • Proactive communicator. Reaches out first, follows up without being prompted, comfortable with people at every level and with external partners.
  • Meticulous. Verifies numbers against source, documents reasoning, does not assume, and asks questions rather than guessing.
  • Adaptable. Thrives on shifting priorities and ambiguity.
  • Sharp and energetic. Fast learner, high output, brings momentum to everything they touch.
  • Entrepreneurial. Takes ownership and creates value rather than waiting for direction.
  • Collaborative. Brings people together across departments to get things done.

Responsibilities

  • Own the annual budgeting process for every department, working directly with department heads to build, challenge, and finalize budgets.
  • Consolidate budgets across entities (US Mobile Inc., US Mobile Canada Inc., US Mobile B.V., and the Pakistan back-office operation), including intercompany cost-plus arrangements and headcount plans.
  • Run the monthly budget-vs-actual cycle: pull actuals from Sage Intacct and Brex, produce variance analysis by department, and drive corrective action with department leads.
  • Document the reasoning behind every material budget line (assumptions, drivers, trade-offs) to ensure transparency and defensibility of decisions.
  • Feed budget and variance outputs into the monthly close and the quarterly CFO report.
  • Continuously improve budgeting processes, including templates, cadence, tooling, and automation.
  • Build and maintain the company risk register: identify, rate, assign owners, and track mitigation across financial, operational, regulatory, vendor, cyber, and people risks.
  • Own the insurance program end-to-end: coverage review, renewals, broker relationship, and claims coordination (D&O, cyber, E&O, GL, property, workers comp, etc.).
  • Own the compliance and audit calendar: financial statement audit, corporate tax, telecom tax and regulatory filings, privacy audits (CCPA), benefits and DOL matters, and state/provincial registrations. Ensure every deadline has an owner and is met.
  • Coordinate external auditors, tax advisors, and regulators on behalf of the CAO's office: prepare requests, track open items, and close them out.
  • Manage vendor and contract risk: track renewal dates, flag auto-renewals, support negotiations, and maintain a single view of committed spend.
  • Monitor treasury and payments risk: cash concentration, bank relationships, and payment processor exposure (disputes, chargebacks, fraud).
  • Design and document internal controls where gaps exist, preparing the company for the control environment expected of a larger, more scrutinized business.
  • Translate the CAO's goals into a clear roadmap with milestones, owners, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Accounting, Product, Engineering, Customer Support, HR, and Legal to keep initiatives moving and unblock dependencies.

  • Prepare presentations, financial summaries, and briefing documents for internal and external audiences, including the quarterly CFO report to investors.
  • Proactively reach out to stakeholders across the company, initiate conversations, and follow up until issues are resolved.
  • Align stakeholders across departments on goals, roles, and timelines tied to the CAO's initiatives.
  • Represent the CAO's office in interactions with internal teams and external partners: auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, insurance brokers, vendors.
  • Build trust-based relationships across the organization to drive alignment and engagement.
