About The Position

As the University's senior Law Enforcement Officer, the Chief is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the University Police Department (UPD) in the discharge of its responsibilities for the overall protection of the life and property within the jurisdictional boundaries of the University. This includes planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of UPD. The UPD is a fully sworn and POST certified police agency.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field, or equivalent.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a sworn law enforcement setting.
  • Including 3 years of management experience.
  • Must satisfy all California P.O.S.T. minimum employment standards.
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, a P.O.S.T. Management Certificate.
  • Must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
  • Must maintain a valid California Driver's License throughout employment.
  • Successful completion and continued compliance with CSU Defensive Driving Course.

Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership and management of the University Police Department (UPD).
  • Protection of life and property within the jurisdictional boundaries of the University.
  • Planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of UPD.
  • Serving as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Compliance with requirements as a "General Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
  • Compliance with requirements as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act.
  • Filing a Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest.
