This position is located in Apopka, FL. The Chief of Parks District spends the majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees. They are responsible for planning and directing employees’ work and have the authority to recommend personnel actions such as hiring, transferring, suspending, laying off, recalling, promoting, discharging, assigning, rewarding, or disciplining subordinate employees. This role directs personnel actions and management decisions within the district. The Chief directs the implementation of policies, plans, and programs related to administration, resource management, visitor services, protection, and maintenance to ensure a balance between protecting and enhancing natural and cultural resources while providing compatible, safe, quality, outdoor recreation opportunities. As a member of the Division Management Team, this role provides input and assistance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide policies and initiatives, and may serve on committees. The position creates and maintains communications and relationships with local, regional, and statewide partners, including governments, special interest groups, citizen support organizations, and other individuals and organizations contributing to the betterment of Florida State Parks. Key responsibilities include determining operational priorities, directing the development of budget requests, and allocating funds. The Chief directs the coordination of district staff programs related to public relations, training, ADA compliance, donations and grants, environmental education, interpretation, volunteers and CSO’s, protection, and administration. They also direct natural and cultural resource management programs for parks within the district, visit parks and community leaders to manage issues and build support, and administer and ensure compliance with Unit Management Plans. The role monitors and analyzes trends in all program areas and acts on or recommends actions for trend changes and management issues. Other related duties as required.
