About The Position

Encompass Health is hiring a Chief Nursing Officer for one of its inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. The role is responsible for the quality of nursing care provided by hospital staff and for fostering a patient-focused, team-oriented culture that supports strong service and patient outcomes. The Chief Nursing Officer collaborates with medical, clinical, and therapeutic disciplines; develops nursing care programs, policies, and procedures; represents nursing on hospital committees; supports an inclusive work environment; and helps the hospital fulfill its mission and goals. The position implements applicable Joint Commission, CMS, state, rehabilitation nursing, and hospital standards, and uses patient-acuity and staffing data to guide staffing and care decisions.

Requirements

• Current RN licensure as required by state regulations.
• BLS certification.
• Obtain CRRN certification within one year of meeting eligibility requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field, unless a higher degree is mandated by state regulations.
• An advanced degree, a plan to receive an advanced degree, or knowledge and skills associated with an advanced degree, unless otherwise specified by state regulation.
• Five years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
• Two years of recent Nursing Management experience within the last five years, including 24-hour accountability, FTE management, policy and procedure oversight, budgetary oversight, and conducting disciplinary action.
• May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and/or night shifts.
• May be required to work scheduled shifts on religious and/or legal holidays.

Nice To Haves

• ACLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with medical, clinical, and therapeutic disciplines to foster a patient-focused, team-oriented culture and deliver superior service and outcomes.
• Develop patient care programs, policies, and procedures for assessing, evaluating, and meeting patients’ nursing care, treatment, and service needs.
• Represent nursing on committees as needed, including the Governing Body, Quality Council, Med Exec, Infection Control, Education, and Ethics Committees.
• Support cultural diversity and maintain an inclusive, respectful work environment.
• Help the hospital fulfill its mission and goals by communicating the mission to staff, holding staff accountable, motivating the team, and overseeing measurement and assessment.
• Implement Joint Commission, CMS, state, rehabilitation nursing, and hospital standards.
• Use a staffing matrix that factors in patient acuity and adjust staffing to meet budgeted NHPPD.
• Use complex data to inform decisions and develop programs and plans that optimize health, promote wellness, manage illness, and prevent patient complications.
