About The Position

This position is responsible for all technical and metallurgical quality aspects of the products manufactured by the TIMET Toronto production department in which the Chief Metallurgist operates.

Requirements

  • Four year Bachelors degree in a metals or materials discipline
  • Five years experience in a metals processing industry

  • titanium processing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and planning of the metallurgical processes of the applicable Toronto production department.
  • Ensuring that the product is capable of meeting customer requirements.
  • Ensuring that customer approval and fixed practice requirements are followed.
  • Ensuring that the processes are optimized for cost and operational efficiency.
  • Planning DOE’s and MPE’s to improve process capability.
  • Working with the Operations and Planning group to facilitate material movement through the department.
  • Working with the OSC to develop subcontractor approvals and agree process routes.
  • Working with the ADT to coordinate the introduction of new products or processes into standard production.
  • Defining product process capability and ensuring that contract review process results in acknowledgement of orders that have proven capability, or that appropriate exceptions or risks (in case of developmental products or process) are communicated.
  • Reviewing non-standard orders and poor process capability orders.
  • Reviewing basis specifications and consulting with tech edit on capabilities versus requirements.
  • Defining test requirements.
  • Maintaining FTP databases and addressing causes of non-conformance.
  • Managing customer relationships.
  • Commenting and negotiating on specification technical requirements.
  • Providing resolution to customer technical questions/problems.
  • Answering customer complaints of a technical nature.
  • Managing customer process qualifications, approvals and metallurgical offers.
  • Developing strong relationships with counterparts at customers and end users.
  • Participating in customer visits and audits and appropriately addressing resultant actions.
  • Providing technical leadership within the department.
  • Supervising, training and developing product metallurgists.
  • Educating production personnel in metallurgical and quality assurance requirements.
  • Liaising with research group, sales and applications development team(s) on new product/process development.
  • Facilitating communication and achievement of company and plant goals and objectives.
