The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the Psychiatric Medical Director who provides clinical leadership, ensuring high-quality patient care. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) combines direct psychiatric expertise with administrative oversight, strategic planning, and program development. Monitors, improves and coordinates the overall medical care, treatment and services of the Organization. Sets medical clinical performance improvement priorities. Oversees the use of special procedures (such as seclusion and restraint) to ensure that they are performed in compliance with regulatory guidelines and that a reduction program is in place for these procedures. Partners with executive leadership on program growth. Establishes and upholds evidence-based standards of care. Promotes an alignment between the Administration, the Governing body and the Medical staff regarding the mission, vision and goals. Ensures that the Medical Staff documentation reflects appropriate degree and intensity of services. Oversees the Medical Staff Performance Improvement Program of data collection and analysis, especially of high risk, high volume and problem-prone processes as applied to high-risk or vulnerable populations (such as seclusion and restraint.) Provides leadership to all Medical Staff performance Improvement initiatives. Determines the on-call schedule for the Medical Staff to ensure proper coverage. Monitors and addresses Medical Staff adherence to on-call guidelines as needed. Maintains a small clinical caseload.
