The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides medical leadership, clinical oversight, and operational direction for healthcare services supporting U.S. government employees and contractors in Iraq. The CMO oversees physicians, nurses, pharmacists, behavioral health professionals, laboratory staff, and additional healthcare personnel to ensure safe, effective, and compliant patient care delivery. This role supports primary care, urgent care, preventive medicine, and emergency stabilization services within Department of State clinical settings.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license.
  • Current ATLS, ACLS, and BLS certifications.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent clinical experience, including 6 months within the last year.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government MRPT clearance.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card holder required.
  • Valid U.S. Passport with at least 18 months before expiration.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Iraq for the assignment duration.
  • Experience with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Must meet all deployment medical and physical requirements.

  • Experience in overseas, austere, or operational healthcare environments.
  • Prior leadership experience managing multidisciplinary medical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise multidisciplinary healthcare teams across clinic operations.
  • Oversee delivery of primary care, urgent care, preventive medicine, and emergency medical services.
  • Support patient assessments, vaccinations, STD testing, health education, and limited chronic disease management.
  • Participate in urgent and emergent patient stabilization and treatment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and support staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with project procedures, training requirements, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Participate in mass casualty (MASCAL) exercises and operational readiness activities.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and effective use of EMR systems.
