About The Position

Presbyterian Healthcare Services seeks a collaborative clinical executive to serve as the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO). As healthcare enters an era defined by digital transformation and artificial intelligence, the CMIO will serve as the enterprise architect bridging clinical excellence with technological innovation. This leader will prioritize the seamless integration of digital health and AI to improve the provider and patient experience, moving the organization beyond traditional EMR optimization toward a future of AI-enabled, data-driven care. Reporting to the Chief Information and Technology Officer (CITO), the CMIO is a senior clinical executive responsible for advancing the strategic use of digital, data, and emerging technologies. This is a rare opportunity to lead an integrated delivery system through the next chapter of informatics—ensuring technology investments drive measurable improvements in quality, patient outcomes, clinician experience, and financial performance.

Requirements

  • MD or DO: Required.
  • Active Clinical Licensure: Ability to maintain a clinical practice (Primary Care preferred).
  • Minimum 9 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical informatics leadership (EMR implementation, optimization, governance) within a complex health system.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AI, machine learning, and digital health platforms beyond foundational Epic knowledge.
  • Proven leadership of enterprise-scale digital transformation initiatives with measurable clinical or financial impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training or fellowship in Clinical Informatics is highly desirable.
  • Experience in not-for-profit (NFP) healthcare; additional experience in health technology organizations or implementing advanced digital solutions is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evolution of inpatient, ambulatory, and virtual clinical systems to enable high-quality, efficient, patient-centered care.
  • Align informatics and digital initiatives with enterprise priorities (quality, access, growth, and financial sustainability).
  • Partner with executive leadership to prioritize and govern digital investments and ensure ROI realization.
  • Champion safe, ethical, and scalable adoption of AI and machine learning across clinical and operational domains.
  • Establish AI governance frameworks, including validation, bias mitigation, monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify and scale high-impact AI use cases, such as clinical decision support, ambient documentation, predictive analytics, and revenue cycle optimization.
  • Improve AI fluency among clinicians and foster a culture of innovation through internal and external partnerships.
  • Lead initiatives to redesign clinical workflows to improve usability, reduce clinician burden, and optimize digital workflows.
  • Promote human-centered design and AI-enabled automation (e.g., ambient documentation and inbox optimization).
  • Engage clinicians as co-designers and champions of digital transformation.
  • Partner with enterprise data and analytics teams to enable real-time insights, predictive modeling, and outcomes tracking.
  • Drive improvements in population health and value-based care through data-informed decisions.
