About The Position

Under general supervision, this role regularly supervises the work of a line crew consisting of not more than 4 other men on all types of construction and maintenance and on energized or de-energized transmission and distribution conductors, structures and equipment. The position may require performing voltage and current tests on low voltage circuits, connecting or disconnecting electric and/or gas meters, performing incidental work necessary to serve electric and/or gas customers, handling trouble calls, and doing high voltage switching. The Chief Line Mechanic assists or relieves the Line Foreman when required and performs any of the duties of a 1/C Lineman and other related or less skilled work as directed.

Requirements

  • At least two years' experience as First-Class Lineman.
  • Ability to perform operations of considerable complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available.
  • Equivalent to 4 years of high school; or 2 years of high school plus 2 years apprenticeship or trade school training.
  • Working knowledge of the layout and characteristics of the transmission and distribution lines in the assigned area.
  • Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals as related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution lines.
  • Thorough familiarity with Company's Electrical and Mechanical Tagging Rules.
  • Familiarity with Company's Safety Rules, approved Methods of Resuscitation on or off the ground.
  • Ability to render practical First Aid.
  • Ability to qualify for required license for vehicles driven.
  • Normal health, physique, and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination, including color perception.
  • Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work irregular and/or extra hours as required.
  • Willingness to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings.
  • Particular alertness in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
  • Capability of making and holding to decisions with fairness.
  • Tactfulness in handling employee relations problems.
  • Ability to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates.
  • Capability of, and willingness to assume supervisory responsibilities.
