About The Position

The Chief Legal Officer oversees and manages the provision of all legal services to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) and the Orleans Parish Sheriff to ensure maximum protection of their legal rights and to maintain OPSO operations. Provides strategic guidance, consultation, and support to senior executive team members on a comprehensive range of legal and associated issues in support of OPSO mission and objectives.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the Louisiana Bar in good standing.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible legal experience, with a significant portion in public sector law, criminal justice, or correctional law.
Demonstrated experience in managing legal departments or significant legal functions.
Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice to executive leadership.
Strong understanding of constitutional law, administrative law, employment law, and civil rights law.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
High ethical standards and integrity.

Nice To Haves

Experience working within a Sheriff's Office or similar law enforcement/correctional agency.
Experience with government contracts and procurement.
Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes.
Experience in litigation management and oversight.
