The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is one of the nation’s most influential forces for racial justice in the United States, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. Founded in 1971, SPLC engages in legal and community-based efforts to combat institutional racism, defeat white supremacist groups, and protect the civil rights of marginalized communities. The organization focuses on five priority Deep South states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi) and maintains offices in Montgomery, Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans, Jackson, and Washington, D.C. The Chief Legal Officer will be a key member of the SPLC executive team, reporting to the President & CEO. This role involves shaping, leading, and managing a strategic, innovative litigation docket at federal, state, and regional levels. The CLO will effectively manage a large and experienced Legal team, collaborating across departments to direct and implement the organization’s impact advocacy and litigation strategy. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in legal leadership within the civil rights space, with significant experience in litigation and advocacy.
