Chief Information Officer

CONMEDCity of Utica, FL
$300,000 - $380,000Remote

About The Position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will lead CONMED’s global information technology organization and serve as a key enterprise leader responsible for building, enabling, and operationalizing technology capabilities that support the business today and prepare the company for future growth. This role requires a CIO who can operate effectively between operational excellence and business enablement - someone who can ensure reliability, security, and compliance while also partnering deeply with the business to solve real problems and unlock value through technology. CONMED’s IT environment is continuing to mature. The successful CIO will help define what scalable, sustainable IT looks like for the organization, building foundational elements while maintaining day‑to‑day operational stability. This leader must be comfortable building as the organization grows, not simply inheriting mature structures. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on, pragmatic builder and translator—capable of designing solutions, developing people, and clearly explaining technology mechanics, tradeoffs, and risks to both technical and non‑technical audiences. This is a remote opportunity with a preference for candidates in the Eastern and Central Time Zones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field required; advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive IT and leadership experience, including executive‑level responsibility in a complex organization.
  • 10+ years of experience leading IT in regulated environments (medical device, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience managing and negotiating enterprise level vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated success building and maturing IT capabilities, not just scaling mature organizations.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems, cybersecurity, data, integration, and IT operations.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively amidst ambiguity and evolving organizational structures.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and credibly to executive and non‑technical audiences.
  • A pragmatic, business‑first mindset with strong technical credibility.
  • The ability to operate effectively in the middle space between operational rigor and business partnership.
  • Comfort building structure, discipline, and clarity as the organization grows.
  • A collaborative leadership style that builds trust across functions.
  • A steady, hands‑on approach focused on building capability while delivering results.
  • Strong alignment with CONMED’s mission and values and a commitment to enabling better patient outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Position IT as a business enabler, proactively identifying opportunities to improve performance, decision‑making, and outcomes through technology.
  • Translate business strategy into practical, executable IT roadmaps that balance near‑term needs with long‑term sustainability.
  • Own enterprise third‑party technology relationships, overseeing vendor selection, negotiation, contracting, and governance for critical platforms and partners (e.g., Windchill, SFDC, SAP, KPMG), ensuring alignment to business needs, cost discipline, and service quality.
  • Build and evolve foundational IT capabilities—including governance, operating models, systems, and architecture—appropriate for a growing, regulated enterprise.
  • Maintain stable, secure, and compliant IT operations while incrementally strengthening maturity and scalability.
  • Define what “scale‑ready” means for CONMED and guide the organization toward it over time.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, compliance, and performance of all IT systems, infrastructure, applications, and data.
  • Maintain strong cybersecurity and data privacy practices, clearly communicating risks, controls, and tradeoffs to executive leadership.
  • Stay informed on evolving regulatory and technology requirements and incorporate them into both strategy and daily operations.
  • Clearly explain system architecture, data flows, dependencies, risks, and tradeoffs to both technical teams and non‑technical leaders.
  • Help business partners understand how technology supports operational, quality, and commercial outcomes.
  • Build shared understanding across the organization of how IT works, where constraints exist, and what is required to mature responsibly.
  • Provide strategic oversight and influence for ERP transformation, establishing technology direction, architectural standards, and decision frameworks that support disciplined execution, risk management, and value realization.
  • Lead the design, evaluation, and evolution of enterprise systems and platforms, ensuring alignment with business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Balance architectural rigor with pragmatic decision‑making in environments where not all structures are fully mature.
  • Strengthen integration, data, and reporting capabilities to improve visibility and insight across the enterprise.
  • Build and lead a high‑performing IT organization with clear accountability, strong business partnership, and appropriate technical depth.
  • Develop IT leaders who understand both technology and the business context in which it operates.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, ownership, collaboration, and calm execution.
