About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer oversees the financial operations of Easterseals Bluegrass with a focus on grant and fund accounting, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship of restricted and unrestricted funds. This role ensures accurate tracking, reporting, and reconciliation of multiple funding sources, including government grants, contracts, and private funding. The Chief Financial Officer manages accounting systems and internal controls to ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and funder requirements. A strong knowledge of medical billing, coding, reimbursement, and healthcare revenue cycle management is required. As a key financial leader, the Chief Financial Officer supervises day-to-day accounting functions such as general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll oversight, and financial reporting. The role is responsible for grant budgeting, expense allocation, cost tracking, and preparation of financial reports for funders, leadership, and the board of directors. The Chief Financial Officer supports audits, monitoring visits, and regulatory reviews, ensuring documentation and reporting meet all applicable standards. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding organizational resources, maintaining transparency, and supporting informed decision-making to sustain the nonprofit’s mission and programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting
  • 3-5+ years healthcare or medical billing experience
  • Demonstrated experience with grant and fund accounting, including restricted funds
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards and financial reporting practices
  • Experience preparing financial reports for grants, contracts, and funding agencies
  • Experience supporting audits and maintaining audit-ready documentation
  • Knowledge of internal controls, financial compliance, and regulatory requirements
  • Supervisory experience and ability to lead accounting staff
  • Proficiency with accounting software and financial management systems
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent credential
  • Experience with government grants or federally funded programs
  • Experience in a healthcare setting to understand medical billing, coding, and lifecycle of revenue

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting for multiple funding sources, including government grants, contracts, and private funding
  • Ensure accurate tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Monitor grant budgets, expense allocations, and cost allowability
  • Prepare and submit financial reports for funders in accordance with grant and contract requirements
  • Support grant budgeting, renewals, and financial components of proposals
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain documentation to support audits, monitoring visits, and financial reviews
  • Assist with preparation for annual audits and coordinate auditor requests
  • Oversee general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll processes
  • Ensure proper internal controls and financial procedures are in place
  • Maintain accounting systems and chart of accounts to support fund tracking
  • Assist leadership with organizational and program budgeting
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support decision-making
  • Monitor expenditures and identify variances or financial risks
  • Supervise billing department and revenue cycle staff
  • Monitor claims submission, denials, and reimbursement trends
  • Ensure proper CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding compliance
  • Review payer contracts and reimbursement rates
  • Analyze KPIs (Days in AR, Net Collection Rate, Denial Rate)
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer regulations
  • Supervise accounting and billing staff and support professional development
  • Promote accountability, accuracy, and efficiency within financial operations
  • Prepare financial reports for executive leadership and the board of directors
  • Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources
  • Support the nonprofit’s mission through transparent and compliant financial practices
