About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior level administrative position responsible for La Clinica’s financial health, planning, payment models and accounting practices as well as its relationship with lending institutions, Board of Directors, and the financial community.

Requirements

  • Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals at various levels under stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy
  • Work productively both independently and in a team setting
  • Communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing to groups and individuals, be an exceptional listener, and be flexible and adaptable within a fast-paced primary care setting.
  • Minimum: BA in Business Administration or Finance.
  • Five or more years of progressively challenging leadership work experience in finance; three plus years’ experience in healthcare finance.
  • Results-oriented, strategic thinker, and planner.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Skills to intervene and promote reconciliation, compromise and positive outcomes in difficult interactions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and create professional business documents.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA and/or CPA.
  • Experience in financing and grants.
  • Experience in the Community Health Centers.
  • Preferred English/Spanish – bilingual bicultural.

Responsibilities

  • Aligns financial strategy with organizational priorities in partnership with the CEO, executive team, and Board.
  • Translates strategy into clear financial targets, assumptions, and measurable action plans.
  • Provides forward-looking financial insight, including scenario modeling, risk identification, and decision frameworks.
  • Leads payer relationships and collaborates with leaders to develop negotiation strategies for rates, contracts, and alternative payment models.
  • Develops and executes a Revenue Opportunity Portfolio to enhance organizational sustainability and growth.
  • Provides proactive, data-driven recommendations to optimize reimbursement and payer strategy.
  • Establishes systems to track financial performance across teams, programs, and the organization.
  • Ensures clear ownership and accountability (RACI-style) for financial outcomes.
  • Identifies financial risks and performance gaps early and escalates with actionable solutions.
  • Leads development of operating and capital budgets that are documented, assumption-driven and Board-approved.
  • Implements participatory budgeting processes with clear accountability and financial rigor.
  • Maintains long-range forecasts, scenario models, and documented financial assumptions.
  • Ensures ongoing forecast vs. actual analysis with clear variance explanations and corrective actions.
  • Implements systems providing enterprise-wide visibility into cost drivers and financial performance.
  • Leads identification and execution of cost improvement initiatives across departments.
  • Embeds proactive, data-driven cost management into operational leadership practices.
  • Establishes and maintains robust internal controls, ensuring regulatory and audit compliance.
  • Ensures accurate reconciliations, segregation of duties, and transparent financial transactions.
  • Oversees contract management, procurement processes, and financial policies to minimize risk.
  • Leads audit processes with minimal findings and timely remediation.
  • Demonstrates control of organizational liquidity through accurate forecasting, active cash management, and early escalation of risks with actionable plans.
  • Maintains accurate oversight and reconciliation of funds, investments, and organizational assets.
  • Develops and manages cash forecasting models and reserve strategies.
  • Delivers accurate, timely, and actionable financial reporting, dashboards, and key performance indicators.
  • Ensures compliance with external reporting requirements (e.g., grants, UDS, cost reports).
  • Translates financial information into clear, accessible insights and leads organizational financial education.
  • Builds and leads a high-functioning finance team with clear roles, accountability, and trust.
  • Establishes RACI-style ownership, delegates effectively, ensures cross-training, and eliminates single points of failure.
  • Participates in La Clinica’s Incident Command team, as needed.
  • Completes required trainings via La Clinica’s learning system by established deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
