About The Position

This is a confidential, high-growth logistics company founded in 1949 that has evolved into a diversified logistics and real estate organization. The company operates approximately 25 facilities nationwide with plans for continued organic growth and strategic acquisitions. They are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who fits a hands-on, operational environment, comfortable with both executive strategy and digging into operational issues. The CFO will oversee the financial leadership and strategic direction of the company and related real estate entities, serving as a key strategic partner to the CEO, President, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team. This role requires a business-minded CFO with experience in operational finance, profitability, growth, and accountability, ideally within logistics, transportation, warehousing, manufacturing, real estate, or similarly operational industries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required.
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Strong operational finance and business analysis capabilities.
  • Experience managing budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, treasury, and banking relationships.
  • Ability to build scalable financial systems and reporting processes.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on operationally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial systems proficiency.
  • Prolonged periods sitting and working at a computer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Occasional travel between company facilities may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, CPA, or CMA designation preferred.
  • Previous experience as a CFO, Controller, VP of Finance, or senior financial leader preferred.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, trucking, warehousing, manufacturing, construction, distribution, or similar operational industries strongly preferred.
  • Experience with family-owned businesses, private equity-backed organizations, or multi-entity operations is a plus.
  • Real estate accounting or operational finance experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to ownership and senior leadership.
  • Help guide long-term company growth, profitability, and operational strategy.
  • Support strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, facility expansions, operational investments, and capital planning.
  • Assist leadership with evaluating business opportunities, operational efficiencies, and growth initiatives.
  • Oversee all accounting and finance operations across multiple business entities.
  • Direct accounting, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, audit, tax, and reporting functions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial processes.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, tax reporting, banking requirements, and compliance reporting.
  • Build and lead FP&A processes, budgeting systems, quarterly forecasting, and operational financial reporting.
  • Develop KPIs and reporting tools that improve visibility and decision-making across the organization.
  • Analyze operational profitability, including trucking operations, warehousing performance, customer profitability, labor efficiency, and capital utilization.
  • Monitor financial performance against forecasts and budgets while recommending corrective actions when needed.
  • Manage banking relationships, lines of credit, treasury functions, and cash flow planning.
  • Assist with capital financing strategies to support company growth.
  • Oversee insurance relationships, claims coordination, and risk management initiatives.
  • Support long-term capital allocation planning and investment strategies.
  • Lead and develop the accounting and finance team.
  • Establish accountability, urgency, and operational discipline throughout the department.
  • Partner closely with operational leaders across trucking, warehousing, maintenance, HR, and real estate divisions.
  • Continue building scalable financial infrastructure to support future growth.
  • Support acquisition analysis, due diligence, financial integration, and post-acquisition reporting.
  • Assist leadership with strategic planning and expansion opportunities.
  • Help build financial systems capable of supporting rapid organizational growth.
  • Participate in executive leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Present financial reporting and analysis to ownership and leadership teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
