The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the overall operation of the maintenance department and the appearance and working order of the hotel. This role oversees the administration of the company’s maintenance and life safety programs, including purchasing, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, hotel security, and life safety, as well as the supervision of the maintenance department. The Chief Engineer ensures customer satisfaction by modeling and adhering to Guest Service Standards, supervising and coordinating maintenance staff, inspecting work, and ensuring effective scheduling to meet financial objectives and maintain product quality. This position monitors the budget, controls departmental expenses, and participates in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and Capital plans. The Chief Engineer ensures compliance with all company, state, local, and federal policies/guidelines for a safe environment and oversees the proper operation of all hotel equipment and systems, including life safety, telecommunications, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, pool, kitchen, and laundry equipment. Maintenance request orders are handled promptly and courteously, with logging and follow-up. The role involves hiring, training, supervising, coaching, and conducting performance evaluations for department associates. Regular communication with management regarding the building's condition and system maintenance is required, along with supervising external contractors. Adherence to all company work rules, procedures, and policies is expected.
