About The Position

The Chief Engineer will supervise maintenance operations for the hotel, ensuring all projects are completed on time and according to specifications. This role involves working closely with other departments, instructing craftsmen, and meeting with architects and contractors. The Chief Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program, upholding quality guest service standards, and managing departmental revenues and expenses to maximize profitability. This position also plays a key role in employee development to enhance guest satisfaction and requires effective communication with guests, associates, and vendors. The Chief Engineer will participate in the Executive committee, contributing knowledge and attending meetings, and is responsible for preparing the annual hotel budget.

Requirements

  • Ability to accurately use various office and accounting software.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of all hotel departments and functions.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge applicable Federal, state, and local health, safety, and legal regulations.
  • HVAC EPA certification
  • Must have exceptional mathematical and computer skills.
  • High school education and/or technical school and relevant training and experience required.
  • Ability to timely obtain any required licenses or certificates.
  • CPR training required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance operations for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventative maintenance, hotel rooms, A/C and heating units, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.
  • Supervise assigned associates including hiring, termination, discipline, development, and evaluations.
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and according to specifications.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure coordination of activities.
  • Aid and instruct craftsmen in scheduling work, ordering material, and completing assignments by a specified date.
  • Meet with architects to discuss blueprints, contact contractors to submit bids for new construction, and meet with construction supervisors to discuss different phases of work.
  • Develop and maintain an ongoing preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintain standards of quality guest service.
  • Achieve budgeted revenues and expenses and maximize profitability related to the guest services department.
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual hotel budget.
  • Increase level of guest satisfaction by delivery of an exceptional product through employee development.
  • Respond and resolve guest requests, complaints, or questions in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Participate in the Executive committee including sharing and communicating knowledge and by attending weekly or monthly meetings.
  • Attend required meetings.
